Telangana Records 64.12 percent Voter Turn Out in Assembly Polls

Hyderabad: Voting process ended in Telangana at 5 pm on Thursday with people casting their ballot to elect their representatives for 119 seats in the state assembly. Barring a few sporadic clashes at a polling booth in Huzurnagar in Suryapet district, the polling process largely remained uneventful in the state. The state recorded 64.12 percent voter turnout at the time of poll close. 

The key districts recorded a voter turnout as follows, Siddipet (77.19%), Rajanna Sircilla (71.87%), Kamareddy (71.00%), Karimnagar (69.22%) and Hyderabad: 39.97%. Kondal Reddy, brother of Telangana Congress chief Revanth Reddy, claimed that the workers of Bharat Rashtra Samithi stopped him from visiting the polling booth in Kamareddy stating that he’s not a registered voter here, so he cannot visit the polling booth. 

The election commission heaved a sigh of relief as the polling concluded peacefully in the 13 assembly segments affected by the Left Wing Extremism (LWE). Due to the sensitive nature of these segments, the polling was stopped at 4 pm.  

According to the state Chief Electoral Officer Vikas Raj, long queues of voters were seen outside polling booths in several areas as the voting pace picked up speed in the last hour. He said the election officials would allow the voters standing in the lines to exercise their franchise which will continue till 6 pm.

The election commission had made elaborate arrangements at the 35,655 polling stations across the state. The services of volunteers were used to help the senior citizens and differently abled voters to cast their vote in the elections. 

With the month-long election process in five states Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Telangana, Chhattisgarh and Mizoram concluded. The voting in these states was held between November 7 and 30. The exit poll results for all the five states are declared at 5.30 pm today. The results of these states are crucial as the Lok Sabha elections are scheduled to be held by May 2024.
