Hyderabad to Witness First Unseasonal Rains and Hailstorms of 2026

20 Feb, 2026 09:48 IST

Weather conditions over Telangana are shifting, and residents of Hyderabad and surrounding districts should prepare for unseasonal rainfall and thunderstorms in the coming week. Meteorologists say this will be the first spell of off-season rain and hailstorms of 2026 in the region.

According to forecasts, rainfall of 20–40 mm could occur at some places across Telangana over the next several days, bringing much-needed moisture but also some disruptions.

Weather experts and local forecasters predict that thunderstorms are likely around February 22, 23, and 24, with scattered rain and hailstorm activity expected across many districts, including Warangal, Siddipet, Khammam, Karimnagar, Suryapet, and Bhadrachalam.

While the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has not issued an official rain alert, it has forecast misty or hazy conditions for Hyderabad during mornings and nights through February 20. Residents are advised to watch local weather updates for the latest information.

The unexpected weather change comes at a time when much of the region is still transitioning from winter to warmer conditions, and sudden showers can affect travel, outdoor plans, and agriculture in rural areas.
City authorities and commuters are being urged to plan ahead, especially if travelling during late evenings and early mornings when mist might reduce visibility on roads. Preparing umbrellas and rain gear in advance could help residents stay comfortable during the predicted showers.
