Hut with Two Bulbs and a Fan Gets Rs. 18 Lakh Power Bill

Visakhapatnam: A slum dweller in Dhodapudi village in Ravikamatham mandal of the district received a power shock when the Eastern Power Distribution Company of AP Limited (APEPDCL) issued the power bill of Rs. 18,68,026 for January 2016.

The woman, Demullamma (60) said she generally gets a power bill in the range of Rs. 50 to Rs. 60 every month. Based on the knowledge, she reached the Mee-Seva utility centre with a Rs. 100 currency note. However, when the officials at the centre explained to her the actual bill amount, a shocked Demulaamma rushed to the APEPDCL office. Upon questioning, assistant engineer Gompaswamy acknowledged the error and blamed the meter reading for the high power bill.
