Hudhud to be declared as national calamity : Prakash Karat

CPM National General Secretary Prakash Karat demanded the union government to declare Hudhud cyclone, which destroyed North Andhra recently, as national calamity.

He visited the cyclone affected areas in Visakhapatnam on Sunday. As part of his schedule, he visited Visakhapatnam Steel Plant on Sunday.

Karat tried to know from the officials the quantum of damage caused with cyclone in the plant.

He demanded the state government to order a probe on the officials failure in not taking any steps to minimize the damage as the cyclone alert was given in advance.

Speaking on the occasion, Karat clarified that they are opposing the move of the union government to privatise some public sector undertakings in the country.
