Funerals on hold in Amaravati

District police officials have imposed restrictions on the conduct of funerals in the villages leading upto Uddandarayunipalem, the venue for the new capital foundation ceremony in Andhra Pradesh.

Using loudspeakers, announcements were made in several villages that all funerals should be put on hold on Thursday. They also imposed restrictions on the movement of cattle and poultry on the streets.

Meanwhile, a youngster died in Thullur mandal on Wednesday due to electric shock. While the relatives decided to conduct the last rites on Thursday, police objected to it. Villagers have expressed shock and anger at the impractical restrictions of overzealous police.
