FB postings: SC directives on arrests

Reacting on the petition filed by social activist and PUCL leader Jaya Vindhyala questioning her arrest over Facebook postings, the Supreme Court on Thursday observed that the arrests should be made only on the directives of the SP cadre official in the cases of objectionable comments on the social websites.

Jaya Vindhyala, who was arrested by Chirala police  for postings against MLA Amanchi Krishna Mohan and Tamil Naidu Governor K Rosaiah. On a complaint from Krishna Mohan, the police took Jaya Vindhyala into custody at Padmaraonagar in Secunderabad. She released on bail and filed a petition in the Supreme court questioning on her arrest. The Supreme Court commented that in the case of such arrests on FB postings, a SP cadre police officer has to give orders.
