The incident took place in September 2015, while the chargesheet was filed in the case a couple of days ago. The father, Dr Rajagopal (82), was undergoing treatment at his son, Jayaprakash’s hospital in Kilpauk of Chennai. On September 5, 2016 his daughter, Dr Jayasudha along with her two sons arrived at the hospital and ordered two duty nurses out of the ward. One of her sons, then pulled out the property documents and tried to get the ailing man’s signature. When he refused, Jayasudha then forcibly got his thumb impressions on the documents and cleaned his fingers of the ink marks. She then, removed the oxygen mask and cut the the line delivering life-saving medicines through IV tube to a vein in the neck.

Ironically, Rajagopal’s daughter is a doctor too. Investigations are underway to verify if she used her medical knowledge to remove life-supporting equipment to kill her father.

Fortunately, the hospital staff walked-in just in time and managed to reconnect the medical equipment. At that moment, Jayasudha and her sons managed to flee from the ward. Later, when the CCTV footage was reviewed and the incident came to light, Rajagopal’s son, Jayaprakash lodged a complaint with the police and also with the Tamil Nadu State Medical Council. He also mentioned that the incident led to a gradual decline in his father’s health condition and he died in November 2015.

Cases have been filed against Dr Jayasudha, her husband Dr U Manoharan and their son Dr Hari Prasad for trying to kill Rajagopal. The medical council, meanwhile, is conducting its own inquiry and does not rule out the possibility of suspended the licences of Dr Jayasudha, her husband and also her son.
