‘My Vote Not For Sale’ Trends On Social Media

Mangalagiri: In the wake of the upcoming elections, an image stating 'My Vote Not For Sale' has gone viral on WhatsApp.

In a bid to create more awareness among the voters, the image is being widely circulated on social media. The image has been created by the Central Election Commission.

According to Section 123(1), the Representation of the Public Act 1951 states that it is a crime to take/give money to vote.

Under Article 171 (b) of the Act, any person who may have lured the voter or misused the right to vote with cash and other gifts can be imprisoned for a year. According to Section 171 (c), any person who has threatened or physically assaulted a voter can be sentenced to a year's imprisonment or has to pay a hefty fine.
