Techies Protest Over TCS Shutdown 

Lucknow: Over 2,000 software professional working with the TCS Lucknow on Monday staged a demonstration at River Port here in the city protesting the shutdown of the company.

Techies, suspending their work, came along with family members to protest as locals, NGOs, activists too extended their solidarity with them. Displaying placards — 'Save TCS', techies organised a silent march over the company's plan to shift the workforce to other centres — Noida, Pune and Indore by December end by closing the centre in Lucknow.

Techies staged protest for the third time in the last seven days on Monday. Techies also sought help from UP Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath. The Chief Minister had also assured them of looking into the issue and ensure that they are not transferred.

For the past 33 years, TCS firm in the city has been providing indirect employment to the locals. Now they are concerned over its shutting down as they lose their business.

Initially, the company stated that it was not able to afford high rental of lease agreement. Later, it said that the TCS wanted to consolidate the Lucknow operations at one centre somewhere in Noida or Pune. Later, it cited reason that the firm in the city was not earning much profits.
