Hyderabad: Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao on Monday asked officials to construct a dedicated reservoir for Greater Hyderabad to mitigate the city's drinking water problems.

Rao, who held a meeting with ministers, MLAs and officials, said Godavari river water from Mallanna Sagar and Konda Pochamma reservoirs would be supplied to fill the proposed reservoir, a release from his office said.

He asked irrigation and RWS (rural water supply) department officials to immediately prepare estimates for the proposed reservoir.

The CM instructed that every household within the city's Outer Ring Road be given drinking water connection.

"Mallanna Sagar and Konda Pochampally reservoirs are getting water from the Kaleswaram project. The government has issued orders allocating 10 per cent of the water for the drinking water purposes.

Hence, from these two reservoirs drinking water should be supplied to Hyderabad," Rao said.

The Kaleswaram Lift Irrigation project, described as a boon to Telangana, was inaugurated recently. (PTI)
