Telangana: Congress Govt to Probe 3 Barrages of Kaleshwaram Project

 - Sakshi Post

Hyderabad: Irrigation Minister N Uttam Kumar Reddy on Monday held a review meeting on the Medigadda barrage issue. The Irrigation minister discussed the sinking of piers of the Medigadda barrage with the Director SV Desai and representatives of the construction major Larsen & Toubro, which built the barrage during the BRS regime.

During the meeting, Uttam Kumar came down heavily on the L&T team and said the government will probe into the allegations of corruption and discrepancies as the structure was built on people's tax revenue.

The state government has asked the officials to submit a comprehensive report on the status of sinking Medigadda barrage, which is a part of the Kaleshwaram Lift Irrigation System. The Irrigation minister has also asserted that the construction companies involved in the building of two more barrages of Kaleshwaram project – Sundilla and Annaram will be called for a review meeting. After the Medigadda barrage, the Annaram ‘Saraswati’ barrage and Sundilla ‘Parvati’ barrage have developed leaks from under the foundations.

Meanwhile, the reports suggest that the L&T construction major has refused to fix the sinking piers of Medigadda barrage without compensation. It’s worth mentioning here that the Block 7 pier of the barrage  developed some cracks in the third week of October 2023 causing concern among the officials of the irrigation department over the safety of the barrage.
