In this regard, a legal notice seeking a written apology within 36 hours has been sent to the actor, failing which Rajini has to pay a whooping amount of Rs 101 crore to the journalist. Kaala is believed to be a life story of the journalist Jawhar Nadar's late father S Thiraviam Nadar, who moved to Dharavi in Mumbai from Tamil Nadu's Tuticorin in 1957. From being a jaggery and sugar merchant, Thiraviam bagged huge fame among the people and became popular for his welfare work. He was named by the people as Kaala Seth and Gudwala Seth.

Jawahar accused that Rajinikanth showcased his father in a bad light so as to garner support from the upper castes in the society. The journalist also said that his father never involved in any illegal activities. However, the Kaala unit denied the allegations and said that the story does not belongs to Thiraviam Nadar. They further said that they will soon give an appropriate reply to the notice when received.

Kaala which is made on the political backdrop has sparkled controversy over the actor's political entry in Tamil Nadu. Earlier, Rajini was in news for his comments on Thoothukudi killings which said that Tamil Nadu will soon turn into a graveyard.
