NGT Notices On Purushottamapatnam Project

New Delhi: The prestigious project of Andhra Pradesh government, the Lift Irrigation project at Purushottapatanam has come under the National Green Tribunal (NGT) scanner. Challenging the project a petition has been filed at NGT mentioning that there have been no proper environmental clearances for establishing the project.

Accepting the petition, NGT has sent notices to Ministry of Environment, Polavaram Authority, Water Resources department of AP, Telangana, Odisha and Chhattisgarh governments and have ordered them to send their replies by July third week.

The lift irrigation project at Purushottamapatanam was meant to bring water to Eluru in East Godavari district. AP government had planned to use this lift irrigation project and Eluru reservoir to supply drinking water to Visakhapatnam as well as water to the industrial belt in Vizag.
